Abstract:
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic caused not just global public health
crisis; it triggered substantial social upheavals, disrupted
significantly nearly every business and industry, and substantially
affected our economy and life and work of everyone around the world.
It has caused unimaginable disruptions everywhere: businesses and
educational institutions are closed, many employees are forced to work
from their homes, supply chains are disturbed, everyone is required to
self-isolate, and in-person meetings, conferences and conventions are
cancelled.
Nevertheless, our life and work and several services that depend on
must continue without much disturbance and uninterrupted. To meet this
need, IT has come to help in new and traditional ways. IT is now the
epicentre of functioning of healthcare, business, education,
governance, and community service, to name a few. And, pro and post
coronavirus, our world wouldn’t be same, and IT will serve even more
significant and extensive roles in the future. The epidemic offered us

Short Bio:
San Murugesan is Director of BRITE Professional Services,
and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Computing and Mathematics at
Western Sydney University, Australia. He is former Editor-in-Chief of
the IEEE CS IT Professional magazine. He has vast experience in both
industry and academia, and his expertise and interests span a range of
areas. He is coeditor of Encyclopedia of Cloud Computing (Wiley-IEEE,
2015) and Harnessing Green IT: Principles and Practices (Wiley-IEEE,
2012). He served as Senior Research Fellow at the NASA Ames Research
Center in California, and as professor of computer science at Southern
Cross University in Australia. Prior to these, he worked at the Indian
Space Agency in Bangalore directing several projects.
Dr Murugesan is Chair of the newly established IEEE CS Special
Technical Community (STC), IT in Practice; Golden Core member of IEEE
CS; and a member of the COMPSAC Standing Committee. He is a fellow of
the Australian Computer Society, and Chair of IEEE NSW Section
Computer Society Chapter. In recognition of his “distinguished and
valuable service, commitment to excellence, and wide-ranging
significant contributions to the Computer Society,” he was awarded the
Society’s the second highest service award, Distinguished Service
